I am raised in the Burgundian south of The Netherlands, studied Art History at the University of Utrecht, with a specialization in 17th century Dutch Visual Arts. Here I started building up my imaginary library, with a focus on the old Dutch still-life masterpaintings. The embroidery napkins, exotic fruits from overseas, tin cans where painted to show the abundance and richness of the Golden Ages. Feeling the urge not only wanting to consider Art, I started at Statief in Utrecht my photographers education to create art. The common threat of my still-lifes is stillness, calmness. Always with a tough of modernity, without loosing the sensitivity of my inspiration of the 17th century painters. For me, everything comes to life in the tranquillity and minimalistic compositions. The natural forms, colors and textures of fruit and vegetables, combined with old objects, give a delicate balance and create movement or lightness. Its my tribute to our cultural heritage. Time has just stopped, to enjoy the simple beauty of objects even more.
