Phillip Lloyd Powell

Like Nakashima and Evans, Phillip Lloyd Powell was a resident of the New Hope, Pennsylvania artist’s colony. Encouraged by Naskahima to try woodworking, he developed a style that was indebted to Mid-Century Modernism’s aerodynamic planes, but also embraced a less-than-perfect organic element. Add to that a collaborative relationship with Evans, and Phillip Lloyd Powell furniture is as undefinable as it is brilliant. From metal screens to cabinets with carved, biomorphic fronts, Phillip Lloyd Powell pieces are profoundly special— with no mass production, nearly every one touched his hand.
