Percival Lafer

Percival Lafer Furniture was the furniture of a generation—audacious, sumptuous, and ergonomic (in an unexpectedly seductive way)—It captured the bohemian aura of the 1970s.

Ranking among Oscar Niemeyer and Sergio Rodrigues as one of Brazil’s most prolific designers, Percivial Lafer fell into furniture making after inheriting his father’s furniture store. Experimenting with material and form led to designs like his MP-89 armchair—composed of Plexi-glass, it's adorned with fishing net and circular leather cushions. Later Percivial Lafer pieces are more formulaic, but no less daring—think plump, richly-covered leather cushions levitating between frames made from exotic Brazilian-grown hardwoods like jacaranda and rosewood.
