While there were no shortage of hardwood-centric North Carolinian furniture companies cropping up in the 20th-Century, Kent Coffey brought a distinctly unique purpose—to make affordable furniture with a decidedly designer edge. Like Mid-Century contemporaries Heywood-Wakefield and Lane, Kent Coffey pieces resonated with the Mid-Century consumer who desired Modernist style, yet on a paired-down scale. Rather than statement pieces, this meant Danish-inspired, but with a reliance on rich hardwoods, atomic-inspired inlays, and brass accents that added subtle pizzazz.
