Always unique and never stuffy, vintage Mikasa china is sure to incite conversation at the dinner table.
Founded by Japanese American George Aratani in 1948, Mikasa grew into a dinnerware wholesaler in the post-war era. It supplied china dishes to department stores like Bloomingdales, Macy’s and other fine retailers.
Although Mikasa — which translates to “three umbrellas” in Japanese — has diversified its product lines since then to crystal stemware, flatware, gifts and more, its classic dinnerware remains to be the company’s bread and butter.
Set Your Table with Vintage Mikasa Dinnerware
Our collection of vintage Mikasa china ranges from sets of five salad plates that are embellished with unique motifs to 80-piece sets that are perfect to serve a crowd.
The more accessible dinnerware option is bone china. This type is made from more durable materials for china dish sets, including cow bones that are crushed into bone ash.
Fine china variations, however, tend to be steeper in price. Fine china is made from a blend of china stone and china white clay. Because it is produced with a higher fire temperature, it is more fragile than bone china.
All Mikasa fine china comes with a stamp on the back indicating the classification.
Never hesitate to bring out that fine china when it comes time to entertain guests! When setting a formal dining table, don’t be afraid to mix and match your Mikasa dinnerware patterns.
