The Montaperto family’s love affair with antique furniture and art began at the end of the Second World War, when Marchese Emilio Pucci Di Barsento asked my father Joseph—his co-pilot in the Italian Air Force—to help him restore and refurnish Palazzo Pucci in the historic center of Florence, Italy. Soon after, Montaperto “Bottega D’Arte” Studio was established, specializing in the restoration and sale of fine antiques, supplying prominent private estates and historical institutions throughout Florence. I started working with my father when I was in grade school, learning hands on the secrets of the trade. As soon as I finished my formal education at The Academy of Fine Arts, Florence; I joined the family business full-time, cultivating notable skills as an artisan, as well as an expertise in the vast field of antiques. After relocating to New York City in the mid 1980’s, I re-established the family business of antique restoration in Manhattan. By 2004, and with an increasingly pronounced interest in historical design of the 20th century, I had collected a significant number of eclectic pieces. Since joining 1stDibs international luxury marketplace in 2005, Montaperto Studios has proven to be an unique source of vintage furnishings and fine art for the trade, and collectors alike. The studio and its collection are now managed by myself and my son, Justinian, in Brooklyn, New York—carrying on the tradition into the third generation. -Angelo Montaperto
