Immediately out of college in 1972, Gary Sergeant, a history major and fine arts minor at Albright College in Pennsylvania, became actively involved in acquiring antique pieces for the start of what eventually would become G. Sergeant Antiques. Soon after graduation from college and studies abroad, Gary opened a gallery in the late 70's in Rumson, New Jersey. In the 80's Gary moved to Connecticut where he expanded his business even further. He has exhibited at numerous prestigious show venues such as The Hartford Connecticut Historical Society Show, the original Folk Art Show in New York City, The Brandywine River Museum Show, and The Connoisseurs Antiques Show, also in New York.

Gary Sergeant has sold pieces to notable celebrities, dealers, collectors and museums for nearly forty-three years. His works of art and antique furniture have been sold to the Albany Institute, Winterthur Museum, The Connecticut Historical Society, The Wadsworth Athenaeum and other private museum collections.

In 1989 Gary opened his shop in New Preston, Connecticut combining European and American furniture with English pieces. The original designs of American Furniture started in Europe, England and Asia. Gary's interests grew in these areas concurrently, as he dealt in fine American Furniture. By 1996, Gary moved his business to Woodbury, Connecticut. The nearly 5,000 square feet of showroom space exhibits a variety of periods of furniture from near and far. His interests lie in English, American and Continental furnishings made prior to the Industrial Revolution of 1840.

Gary is an active member of the oldest established antique association in America, The Art and Antique Dealers League and the European counterpart; The Confederation Internationale des Negociants en Oeuvres d'Art (CINOA) and The Woodbury Antique Dealers Association (WADA), a local association in Connecticut.

Gary now resides in Roxbury, Connecticut with his wife Deborah and their two Irish Setters; Oliver and Kelly.
