more A conversation starter if ever there was one, this rare and unusual 1970s box features a large bone as well as a small face carved from bone. The sides of the top are covered in tessellated bone tiles. The base is nickel-plated steel, and both the top and the base are lined in luxurious chocolate-brown suede. A beautifully made piece. "Jonson + Marcius" signature etched on underside of lid.
In the early 1970s, Gene Jonson and Robert Marcius formed a partnership and supplied Bergdorf Goodman, Henri Bendel and Bloomingdale's with jewelry, and Karl Springer with accessories, furniture and sculpture. Other clients of the New York firm included Cartier and Tiffany.
