moreA tubular metal and glass vanity by Louis Sognot. Sognot, an influential modernist, took his own approach to metal furniture, reconciling an overly clinical style with traditions of French decoration and individualism. In this work, Sognot shapes simple, economical materials into a luxurious object: the vanity; an example of working within a modernist vocabulary while preserving a distinctly French idea. The vanity base is made of bent nickel-plated tubular brass that supports a 1.25-inch-thick slab of St. Gobain glass. A brass framed mirror with lacquered wooden back is mounted on the tubular metal frame, above the glass top. less
