Walter Knoll

Not to brag on behalf of Walter Knoll Furniture, but really, now, how many makers can claim to have furnished a Zepplin?

While Hans Knoll seemingly cut the fabric for the modern furniture company with his American-born Knoll, it was actually his grandfather—Walter Knoll—who established the empire in Germany in 1865. Originally a leather company, the brand had evolved into a furniture company by the 1920s. Married to innovation, Walter Knoll pieces are credited as the first Modern-style furniture designs to feature upholstery, and later, their pieces were used on the world’s first furnished aircrafts and zeppelins—Indeed, Knoll is first-class style.
