Romweber

Romweber formed when the American Furniture Company, Batesville Cabinet Company, and Batesville Coffin Company merged together, becoming the oldest and one of the largest case good furniture manufacturers. Based in Batesville, Indiana, Romweber produces mostly maple wood pieces, from entertainment units and storage cabinets to office desks and dining sets. Their pieces have found their place in universities, resorts, and distinguished homes and mansions throughout the country. Romweber furniture is known for their durability and timeless style, as vintage Romweber furniture continues to be in high demand today. Each piece is carefully designed and constructed, as wood pieces are made with hand-matched veneers. The Viking Oak Collection was released in 1935, said to be inspired by Nordic design after the grandson of Romweber founder, R. J. Romweber, took a trip to Norway. The collection was produced up until 1987, making it the longest continuing commercial furniture collection of the time, a testament to the popularity of Romweber designs. Vintage Viking Oak pieces have more Arts and Crafts style silhouettes and wood carvings, with a refreshing sense of purity and authenticity. Aside from in-house designers, Romweber also collaborated with well-established designers. Romweber’s collection with Harold Schwartz brought many pieces of Mid-Century Modern furniture with sleek forms and colorful upholstery different from the usual Traditional style of Romweber furniture.
