Roche Bobois Furniture began with the loftiest of ambitions—to bring Scandinavian design to Paris. High aim, but they’ve since brought it to the world.
The result of two star-crossed families meeting at a Copenhagen Furniture expo, Roche Bobois opened its doors in the 1960s. The families’ goal was to introduce burgeoning designs to new markets, beginning in France and eventually widening to include Spain, the U.S. and China among others. In the 1960s Danish design was their focus, while the 80s increasingly featured ethnic styles. Along the way, Roche Bobois pieces have included both imports and collaborations with notable designers like Vladimir Kagan and Hans Hopfer, the latter of who designed their best-selling Mah Jong sofa.
