Robert Sonneman

Description

Maybe it's just us, but the space-age lighting designs of Robert Sonneman have us thinking: perhaps being beamed up would really be a wildly chic ride…

Robert Sonneman got his start in lighting when in 1961 he became the sole employee at a George Kovacs store on the Upper East Side. Inspired by Kovac’s modernist style and fascinated by principles of movement, weight, and balance, Sonneman decided to create his own profound line of lighting. Indeed, Robert Sonneman pieces are caught in the balance between function and art—finishes are flashy, but symmetry abounds as well. It’s his irreproachable use of dichotomy that makes Sonneman’s mantra enticingly clear: simplicity makes for the ultimate sophistication.
