Like American icon Kittinger, Kindel Furniture is among the most historical of U.S. furniture brands. Founded in 1901 by Charles J. Kindel, Kindel Furniture has made a name for itself with classic American-style furniture executed to the highest of standards. Even today, over 100 years after its founding, Kindel Furniture remains 100% produced in Grand Rapids, Michigan, making it one of the handful of furniture brands in the Great Lakes region to still do so. And unlike other companies that have turned to machinery to handle assembly and finish work, Kindel Furniture has maintained a start-to-finish hands-on approach. Everything from assembly to finishing details like decorative painting and carving is handled by master-level artisans. In terms of style, Kindel Furniture spent the majority of the 20th Century paying homage to the designs that populated America’s founding fathers' homes. Chippendale high boys, Georgian dining tables, Federal sideboards, and four-posted beds were all on heavy rotation for the brand, with mahogany wood doing the majority of the heavy-lifting. Today Kindel Furniture aligns itself more with the Hollywood Regency look. Elegant chests in playful hues and shapely settees dominate the Kindel catalog. Kindel Furniture has also assumed production of the official Dorothy Draper collection, including her famed Espana chest. That said, their roots haven’t been forgotten.
