Jacques Biny

Jacques Biny

While Italy is often recognized for leading the Modernist lighting revolution, French designer Jacques Biny is not to be overlooked. Having founded the lighting production workshop, Luminalite, in 1953, Biny was notable for his creation of movable fixtures using revolutionary materials like Plexiglass and perforated metal. Featuring an aesthetic similar to Stilnovo, Jacques Biny pieces are reliant on futuristic forms like cones, saucers and cylinders, while also opting for bright, bold colors that imbue a sense of cleverness and whimsy.
