Ficks Reed furniture brings a relaxed, tropical vacation atmosphere into any space. Originally founded in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1885 as a maker of woven reed and wicker baby carriages, Ficks Reed later expanded to produce high quality furniture out of rattan, woven peel, bamboo, and selected hardwoods, offering a natural aesthetic. Ficks Reed’s iconic furniture can be found not only in homes, but in prestigious hotels, resorts, clubs, and restaurants around the world as well. The wicker and rattan furniture trend of the 1950’s fused modernism with subtle exotic Asian influences, as designers worked tightly with skilled artisans to create high quality pieces. Vintage rattan furniture is known for its durability, as rattan has the perfect balance of pliability and solidity. Beyond typical patio furniture and indoor rattan furnishing, Ficks Reed also produced headboards, ottomans, and even dressers. Each piece of Ficks Reed furniture is hand-worked by master craftsmen, ensuring high attention to details. Ficks Reed has also collaborated with renowned designers such as Dorothy Draper and Paul László, creating bespoke lines for both residential and commercial purposes. Most notably, John B. Wisner’s “Far Horizons Collection” in 1954, was very popular and high in demand. The collaboration produced a number of lounge chairs, sofas, accompanying tables, and dining sets with unique designs that incorporated Eastern elements. Nowadays, pieces from this collection are rare, and many have been carefully restored to their original beauty. Ficks Reed continues to maintain its reputation of legacy of excellence in wicker and rattan furniture.
