Erté (Romain De Tirtoff)

Erté (Romain De Tirtoff)

A twenty-year partnership with Harper's Bazaar had undeniable influence on Erté Romain de Tirtoff. Born in Russia, he moved to Paris in 1912, embarking on a life most fashionably lived. In addition to costumes designed for the Ziegfeld Follies and Hollywood films, Erté Romain de Tirtoff pieces include a number of lithographic fashion prints. Just as Mark Shaw has done for photography, Tirtoff's prints are odes to the lyricism of the female form—sensual and graceful, they are visual symphonies with Deco-like echoes.
