Emile Galle

Emile Galle

A French glassmaker who studied botany as a child, Emile Gallé is credited as one of the founding members of the Art Noveau movement. A pioneer not only in terms of the materials he chose—like Daum he utilized enamels and metallic foils to add poignant color to glass—but Emile Gallé pieces also feature the types of floral motifs that would become the romantic hallmark of the Art Noveau style. Magnificently beautiful, it is no surprise that the French succinctly referred to Gallé as poetry in glass.
