Lucite Dining Tables

Those on the hunt for a statement dining table can’t do better than a Lucite dining table. Avant-garde, elegant, and a touch unexpected, Lucite dining tables have been in production since the late 1950s when acrylic first hit the commercial grade market. Wondering what Lucite is, exactly? By definition, Lucite is simply a dense, transparent plastic. The name is often interchangeable with acrylic, with the caveat being that Lucite is considered the highest grade version of acrylic on the market. If you’re in the market from a modern dining table made of acrylic, there are two key makers to keep in mind: Charles Hollis Jones and Alessandro Albrizzi. Charles Hollis Jones, considered the Godfather of Lucite, began designing almost exclusively with Lucite in the 1960s. Headquartered in L.A., Charles Hollis Jones has designed everything from Lucite cake stands to Lucite beds. Among his most famous designs, however, are his Lucite dining tables. The Le Dome Dining Table, for instance, is a Lucite dining table consisting of a pillar base with a polished dome top. On top of the dome rests a round Lucite top. Although not as well known as Charles Hollis Jones, London-based designer Alessandro Albrizzi also designed a multitude of Lucite tables in the later half of the 20th Century. Those looking for a Lucite dining table that is less of a statement piece and more of a seamless player will love Albrizzi’s sleek, modern dining tables which sometimes incorporate brass or chrome elements.
